Meet Nicky
Founder of Bybrook Therapies
I’ve always been fascinated by people, why we think, feel and behave as we do,
what we carry beneath the surface, and what helps us create meaningful change.
Over time, I’ve come to realise that we can spend years trying to think our way out of how we feel.
Sometimes we need to start somewhere else.
With the body. With the breath. With safety. And with enough space to actually notice what is going on inside us.
My Story
Like most people, I’ve experienced different chapters of life, some wonderful, some difficult and some that changed me.
Losing my dad suddenly was one of those moments.
It brought home how quickly life can change and how much we can carry beneath the surface while still getting up, getting on and doing everything that needs to be done. It deepened my understanding of grief, change and the importance of having somewhere safe to simply be, without needing to have all the answers.
My own experiences, alongside my professional training, have shaped the way I work today.
I’m not interested in telling people who they should be or trying to “fix” them.
I’m much more interested in helping someone become curious about themselves.
Who are you beneath all the noise?
We spend our lives being somebody to everybody else.
Parent. Partner. Carer. Professional. Friend. The strong one. The capable one. The person who keeps everything going.
Somewhere amongst all of that, it can become difficult to hear ourselves.
And sometimes the journey isn't about getting back to the person we used to be.
Perhaps it's about creating enough space to discover more of who we really are, beneath the roles, expectations, stories and patterns we've collected along the way.
Our minds and bodies are extraordinary. When we slow down enough to turn our attention inward, we can begin noticing the thoughts, emotions, sensations and signals we normally rush straight past.
That curiosity is something I love helping people explore.
My Approach
Safety before release. Capacity before intensity.
This isn't simply a phrase at Bybrook Therapies. It guides the way I work.
I don't believe deeper or more intense automatically means better.
Sometimes what someone needs most is to slow down, breathe, feel grounded and experience what it feels like for their system to settle.
That's why I work with the person in front of me, rather than following the same formula for everybody.
Depending on what you need, our work may include Solution Focused therapeutic support, nervous-system education and regulation practices, breathwork or carefully selected 9D Breathwork experiences.
And when deeper work is appropriate, we approach it from a foundation of greater safety, awareness and capacity.
Regulate → Release → Reconnect → Transform
There is no prize for having the biggest emotional release in the room.
For me, the important question is:
What does your mind and body need today?
Professional Background
My work is supported by professional training and therapeutic experience, including:
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
Animal-Assisted Therapy
Certified 9D Breathwork Facilitator
BA (Hons) Applied Social Science
Advanced DBS
Nervous-system education, regulation and a body-aware approach also inform the way I work.
I continue to learn and develop because I believe the people who trust me with their wellbeing deserve that
Away From the Therapy Room
You'll usually find me somewhere around animals or nature.
My dogs are a huge part of my life, and animals have taught me an enormous amount about presence, connection and simply being in the moment.
I love the countryside, the sea, sunshine and sunsets, music and those moments when life becomes quiet enough to really notice it.
And there are usually a few chickens wandering around too.
Bybrook Therapies reflects quite a lot of that.
I don't want it to feel clinical or intimidating.
I want it to feel human.
A place where you can arrive exactly as you are.
You Don't Need to Know Where to Start
You don't need to understand breathwork or know which approach you need.
And you certainly don't need to arrive with everything worked out.
Sometimes the first step is simply a conversation.
We can start there and see what feels right for you.
